Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defence official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing classified matters in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Background

The announcement follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining lasers at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader security situation underscores the importance of strong protocols and caution in all aspects of official operations, from transport usage to communication practices.
