The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification. Online Platforms Reaction Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification. Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches similar services. It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, which has left users frustrated. Measurement Approach Updates Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10. The new system has a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10. For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18. Shopper Stories A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling". "Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does. A different member, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22. "If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said. Manual Updates A different user, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing". "For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained. Service Background The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users. It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop. This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
